    The Isle of Mull

    Tobermory

At this time of year, I often find myself reminiscing about our iconic ‘Three amigos’ road trip to the Isle of Mull. Crammed into my little white Ford Ka, Dom, Elijah and I—along with our excessive amount of luggage—somehow made it all the way to a rural campsite near Tobermory.

Despite the rain and choppy seas, the boat trip to Staffa did not disappoint. The puffins, as always, were incredibly charismatic and photogenic. There was also a great skua nesting on the island at the time we visited but I didn’t manage to get any good shots. Stepping into Fingal’s cave and the seeing the classic hexagonal columns of the island also made this a worthwhile visit.

There’s something so special about hiking on an island: panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding mainland. Though I spent most of the hike scanning the skies for white-tailed eagles. It was Elijah who spotted the dark silhouette of one. We’re pretty confident it had a white tail and that so called ‘flying door’ look because of its impressive wingspan.
